Texans drop WR Stephen Louis, add CB Derrick Jones

The Houston Texans waived receiver Stephen Louis on Monday and signed cornerback Derrick Jones to the active roster.

Louis caught three passes for 24 yards in the Texans’ 28-26 preseason loss to the Green Bay Packers on Aug. 8. In Houston’s 30-23 win over the Detroit Lions at NRG Stadium, the undrafted wideout from North Carolina State incurred one holding penalty in the fourth quarter.

Dropping Louis gives the Texans 11 receivers on their active roster.

Jones played with the New York Jets from 2017-18, and the club selected him with their sixth-round pick from Ole Miss. The Jets cut bait with Jones on Aug. 10, and the Packers claimed him off waivers the next day. However, a failed physical led to Green Bay not going through with the acquisition of Jones.

The 6-2, 188-pound cornerback joins the other 10 on the active roster. Jones played four career games with the Jets and collected three combined tackles.
