Texans draft Kentucky cornerback Lonnie Johnson at No. 54 overall

The Houston Texans will get younger at cornerback in the 2019 NFL draft.

With their first of two consecutive picks in the second round, the Texans selected Kentucky Wildcats cornerback Lonnie Johnson with the 54th overall pick.

Johnson is a 6-3, 206-pound cornerback who has length and range. The Gary, Ind., native is a junior college transfer from Garden City Community College, where he played only in 2015 as he focused on his studies in 2015.

With the Wildcats, Johnson picked off one pass and recorded a forced fumble in his senior season.

The move allows the Texans to get younger at cornerback with starter Johnathan Joseph set to turn 35 years old by Week 1 of his 14th professional season.
