Texans draft Central Michigan CB Xavier Crawford in Round 6

The Houston Texans continued to add to their cornerback youth with the selection of Central Michigan’s Xavier Crawford with the 195th overall pick in Round 6 of the 2019 NFL draft Saturday.

Crawford was a transfer from Oregon State and played one season at Central Michigan. In 2018, Crawford played 11 games and recorded 24 combined tackles, 3.0 tackles for loss, intercepted a pass, had two fumble recoveries, and produced 12 pass breakups.

The Texans added a cornerback in the second round with Lonnie Johnson from Kentucky with the 54th overall pick. Now, with Crawford, the Texans have two rookies to help a unit get younger that features Johnathan Joseph, who will be 35 by Week 1, as its top cornerback.

Crawford has decent range for a cornerback at 6-1, 180 pounds, much like Johnson. The drafting of the two corners who are above six feet indicates the defense is starting to trend more towards cornerbacks that used to be featured in the Legion of Boom Seattle Seahawks from the early part of the decade.
