Texans’ Deshaun Watson stresses rhythm, not feeding specific players

During the Houston Texans’ 53-32 win over the Atlanta Falcons, Deshaun Watson found wide receiver Will Fuller 14 times for 217 yards and three touchdowns. Though a gaudy stat line, the quarterback wasn’t intentionally feeding his receiver receptions.

Watson was taking what the defense gives him. Getting in rhythm is far more important than padding stats or targeting a specific receiver. His options don’t dictate where he passes; the coverage does.

“It just depends on what the defense is doing and where my read is taking me depending on what play we have, if it’s run or pass, then just being able to, like you said, just take what they give us, quick, easy rhythm things,” Watson told the media Wednesday. “If it’s a shot play, taking what the defense’s give us and just making the right decision and being decisive while doing it.”

Decisiveness and rhythm. Fantasy football owners of Fuller or DeAndre Hopkins may hate it, but it is smart football. In the reality of the game, that is what matters.
