Texans’ Deshaun Watson explains option-TD with WR Keke Coutee

The Houston Texans’ first touchdown in their 30-23 loss to the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday wasn’t your usual one.

On the play, quarterback Deshaun Watson faked a run with Carlos Hyde, scampered to the left-side (weak-side) then pitched it to wide receiver Keke Coutee — who motioned from the right-side (strong-side) — to get Houston’s first score of the day.

Watson, a noted football junkie, can explain the touchdown better than a journalist.

“Yeah, I just kind of reacted. The safety came hard and I hopped off but he was still in my way. The fastest route — I didn’t want to throw it over because the guy could have jumped up or something,” said Watson after the loss.

“On my left, Keke (Coutee) was running too fast and I didn’t want put it all the way behind,” Watson continued. “So I just kind of flicked it out to him on my right. I honestly don’t know how I did it. But I just did it and he made a good catch.”

The option-touchdown wasn’t just the Texans’ first of the day, it was Coutee’s first total touchdown of the season. However, it didn’t help Houston leave Indianapolis with a win, as their comeback efforts were stopped short with a fourth-quarter interception.
