Texans defensive end J.J. Watt says he’s out for the year

Houston Texans defensive end J.J. Watt announced on Twitter Sunday that he is out for the year with an injury.

According to Watt’s official Twitter account, the three-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year stated that he is “absolutely gutted” that he won’t be able to complete the 2019 campaign with the Texans after the club beat the Oakland Raiders 27-24 Sunday afternoon at NRG Stadium.

“This game can be beautiful and it can also be brutal,” Watt wrote. “Absolutely gutted that I won’t be able to finish the season with my guys and give the fans what they deserve. I truly love this game and can’t stand letting you guys down. Thank you for all of the thoughts & well-wishes.”

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the club fears that Watt tore his pectoral. After the game, according to coach Bill O’Brien, he went straight to an area hospital to get an MRI, and it appears the results came back rather expeditiously.

2019 will mark the third season in Watt’s nine seasons that he will be out for the year. In 2015, he missed three games, and in 2016 he missed five.
