Texans defense owns consecutive games with a takeaway streak by wide margin

The Houston Texans defense may struggle at times — particularly late in games — but no team in the NFL has recorded as many consecutive forced turnovers games than them.

When outside linebacker Whitney Mercilus’ forced fumble sack recovered by defensive end J.J. Watt on Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars, Houston made their lead in consecutive turnover games that much wider. They’ve forced a turnover in 15 straight games.

Second place behind Houston? The Philadelphia Eagles with eight. AFC South foe Tennessee Titans finish behind the two at No. 3 with seven.

Mercilus has forced both of the Texans’ turnovers on the year. One in Week 2 on the strip-sack of Gardner Minshew, and the other in Week 1, on an ultra-rare interception on New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees.

The Texans hope to make their 16 on Sunday when they face the Chargers in Los Angeles. The Chargers have turned over the ball twice in 2019; the Texans, once.
