Texans DE J.J. Watt set to haze rookie OT Tytus Howard over ‘Weenie’ nickname

Every team has its own traditions for “welcoming” their rookies each year, and the Houston Texans appear no different.

Three-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year J.J. Watt took full advantage of Houston Chronicle reporter John McClain revealing that the club’s first-round rookie offensive tackle Tytus Howard is affectionately known as “Weenie” by his mother.

Of course, this is a luxury reserved for just Mrs. Howard. However, McClain went on to say that “It’s pretty funny cause everybody’s like, ‘Hey, we can’t call you Weenie now. We’ve got to call you hot link.'”

However, Watt isn’t going to follow that trend.

“Sometimes the rookie hazing writes itself,” Watt tweeted. “Congratulations on being drafted and welcome to Houston, Tytus. Looking forward to meeting you. We’ll be sure to have a jersey with your nickname on it ready for your first practice!”

It’s safe to say that “Hot Link” can expect this new nickname to stick with him for some years to come.
