Texans DE J.J. Watt says there is no advantage in playing a team twice in 3 weeks

The Houston Texans are playing the Indianapolis Colts for the second time in three weeks, and defensive end J.J. Watt doesn’t believe either side has an advantage.

For the former 2011 first-round pick from Wisconsin, this is the second time in his career they have played the Colts in such a tight window. The first time was in 2012 when they played Indianapolis in Week 15 and then finished the regular season at Lucas Oil Stadium in Week 17.

“If there is, they have the same advantage,” Watt said. “I don’t think that there’s necessarily an advantage from one team or another. Obviously there’s going to be a lot of similarities. Nobody’s changing their entire playbook in a two week time period.”

Watt provided Houston with six combined tackles, four tackles for loss, a quarterback hit, and 1.0 sack in 68 snaps.

Where there could be an advantage is if a team decided to catch the other side off balance.

Said Watt: “There’s also a chance to switch things up if you want to, try to catch them off guard. They can try and catch us off guard or whatever it may be. But there is a familiarity and you still have some of the plays and memories fresh in your mind that you can go out there and make them right or continue the success you had.”

Houston fell 26-20 in Week 13 at NRG Stadium. The Colts have not swept the Texans since 2017, which was also the last time the Texans were 4-9.
