Texans DE J.J. Watt says practicing at Lambeau Field will be coming ‘full circle’

Houston Texans defensive end J.J. Watt can’t wait to practice against the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field when the two sides hold joint practice in early August.

For Watt, who grew up in Pewaukee, Wisconsin, it will be the first time he will get to face his childhood team in some manner while playing for the Texans.

“For me to go back there and practice there and be able to play at Lambeau, it all comes full circle for me,” Watt told reporters at the AmFam Championship in Madison, Wisconsin. “And it’s gonna be a really, really cool experience. I’m more excited to play a preseason game at Lambeau than a regular season because I get to do the practice experience and live out that dream I had as a kid.”

Interestingly, Watt missed out on a chance to play against the Packers at Lambeau back in 2016. Three games into the season, Watt suffered a herniated disc and was placed on injured reserve. Houston traveled to Green Bay and lost 21-13.

Earlier this offseason, Watt got a chance to meet former Packers quarterback Brett Favre, who was one of Watt’s heroes growing up. Now, he will get a chance to practice on the same field of his childhood NFL team Aug. 5-6 and then face Green Bay in a preseason game Aug. 8.
