Texans DE J.J. Watt not fazed by Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes’ no-look passes

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has a unique skill that is emblematic of his exciting style of play, the no-look pass.

However, Houston Texans defensive end J.J. Watt is not concerned about the use of the skill when the two sides face each other 12:00 p.m. CT Sunday at Arrowhead Stadium.

“The ball’s going where it’s going to go,” Watt told reporters Wednesday.

One of the first instances Mahomes used the no-look pass was against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 14 of the 2018 season.

Since then, it has become a highlight reel sensation and a staple of Mahomes’ game.

However, the 2018 NFL MVP has more to his game than simple highlight reel bait. Mahomes’ ability to improvise and escape pressure also makes him one of the most dynamic passers in the game today.

“He’s a great player,” Watt said. “He can move around, he can make plays on the run, he can make plays looking one way, looking the other way, not looking, looking backwards. He can do everything. He’s a phenomenal player.”

The Texans have produced 15 sacks on the season, tied with the Minnesota Vikings and Green Bay Packers for the ninth-most in the league. Mahomes will be one of the more elusive challenges for the Texans’ pass rush, as the former 2017 first-round pick from Texas Tech has taken just seven sacks on the season.

“It’s a great challenge for us, which we’re really looking forward to,” said Watt. “But the guy deserves all the credit he gets. He’s a great player.”

The Texans and the Chiefs are both at the precipice of starting streaks. For the Texans, with a 53-32 win over the Atlanta Falcons, it could be the beginning of another two-game winning streak. For the Chiefs, thanks to their 19-13 loss to the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday night, it could be the start of a two-game losing streak, their first since Weeks 15-16 of 2018.
