Texans DE J.J. Watt looks forward to joint practices with Packers

Over the last couple of years, the Houston Texans have been training out of state, and this year the Texans are going to spend more time training out of state again. Green Bay is where the Texans are going for joint practices with the Packers on Aug. 5-6, and defensive end J.J. Watt loves the idea.

“I’m very excited about that. I found out about that — as a kid, I grew up and I went to Green Bay Packers training camp and I watched the kids ride the bikes,” said Watt.

The future three-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year would stand in teh parking lot outside of Lambeau Field and ask players for autographs. Seeing grown men get paid to play football seemed like “the coolest job in the world” to a young Watt. Now, he will have a chance to literally live a dream he had as a kid.

“That’s going to be — I don’t have a ton of emotional moments in my career, that’s going to be an emotional one, that’s going to be really cool,” said Watt, a native of Pewaukee, Wisconsin.

Watt is entering in his ninth year as a Texan and looks to play at a very high level still. In 2016, Watt missed out on playing at Lambeau Field as he suffered a herniated disc three games into the year, which cost his season. Now, he will have a chance to take in even more of the Lambeau experience.
