Texans cut cornerback Aaron Colvin

The Houston Texans released cornerback Aaron Colvin on Tuesday evening following the club’s 30-28 loss to the New Orleans Saints Monday night at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.

The former Jacksonville Jaguar was due $7.5 million, but the Texans parted ways with him nonetheless.

Colvin produced four combined tackles against the Saints, but he was also in on one of the costliest plays of the evening as he was defending Saints receiver Ted Ginn on a pass play that went for nine yards and gave the Saints a chance for a 58-yard field goal. Kicker Wil Lutz booted the field goal and sent the Texans home with a three-game losing streak on Opening Day and an 0-1 mark.

The former Oklahoma Sooner played 10 games and started in two for the Texans last season after signing a four-year, $34 million contract with $18 million guaranteed in 2018 free agency. Colvin battled through an ankle injury that limited him to 29 combined tackles, two fumble recoveries, and a pass breakup in his first season with Houston.
