Texans coach gives Brian Flores a glowing endorsement

One of the features of the NFL Combine is the chance to get any and all NFL head coaches up on the podium for their state of the union address. Some use the time to talk about potential draft needs. Others still to talk about their staff or current players.

But Houston Texans head coach Bill O’Brien was asked about Miami Dolphins new head coach Brian Flores. And O’Brien offered a very kind assessment of his former co-worker in New England.

“Brian Flores is, first of all, a great friend of mine. Tremendous amount of respect for him. His background, everyone knows his story. You know, how he was brought up, where he grew up. When I got to New England, he was a scout…and then Bill (Belichick) moved him to the offensive side and he worked with me for a while and then he wanted to be on defense,” said O’Brien.

“Every role that he had in New England…he did a great job. He’s a very bright guy. He’s a hard working guy. His players really respect him, he’s the same guy every day. He’s not an up and down guy…he’ll do a great job in Miami.”

O’Brien’s assessment of the new Dolphins coach falls right in step with what we’ve heard from everyone else who has worked with Flores. We may not know what this team is going to look like from a traits perspective, but we do know what we are getting in our head coach.
