Texans coach Bill O’Brien still in disbelief over Deshaun Watson’s go-ahead TD

Deshaun Watson has broken NFL Twitter a few times. On Sunday, during the Houston Texans’ 27-24 win over the Oakland Raiders, he broke it again.

On a go-ahead touchdown in the red zone, Watson powered through multiple Raiders sack attempts and a kick in the eye to throw a touchdown pass to Darren Fells that will be praised throughout the season.

Texans coach Bill O’Brien has seen his fair share of football in his days. He has never seen a play like what Watson did on Sunday.

“Have you ever seen a play like that? I haven’t. It was just a great football play. He’s got great playing strength,” said O’Brien on Monday. “Look, at the end of the day, he thinks that every play should work, so he’s going to try and make every play work.”

Watson went 27 of 39 (69.2%) for 279 yards and three touchdowns in the win. His speculator touchdown to Fells secured Houston’s fifth-win of the season.

“I thought yesterday he did a really good job of making some good decisions and on that play he knew that he wanted to help us score a touchdown,” said O’Brien, “so he kept the play alive.”

Watson was down on the field after scoring the touchdown. He was kicked directly in the eye on the play and needed medical attention after. Despite that, he finished the game with a noticeable black left eye.

“When you watch the play, he took an accidental foot in the eye. Everybody’s been poked in the eye before. That’s not a comfortable feeling. He got kicked in the eye — accidentally, quite obviously, and then he made a touchdown pass. That’s great play. That’s a great football play.”

Was the play more of Watson’s wizardry or game planning by the Texans? O’Brien said, “We work that drill a lot in practice, stumbling and kicking him in the eye.”

Really?

“Just kidding.”

Practice or not, Watson’s touchdown is one of the more mind-boggling of the 2019 season. O’Brien wouldn’t be one to disagree with that.
