Texans coach Bill O’Brien says DE J.J. Watt likely to miss the rest of joint camp with Packers

J.J. Watt’s fans up in his home state of Wisconsin may be lining up to support their local hero train alongside their beloved Green Bay Packers. However, they may have to wait one more day.

This comes after the Houston Texans defensive end came out of practice on Monday with a tight groin. Thankfully for the fans, this was just a precautionary measure to ensure no injury occurred as a result, but it would seem that the former Walter Payton Man of the Year won’t be on the field on Tuesday as a result.

“Probably not, probably not,” O’Brien told reporters Monday. “I would say probably not.”

Naturally, the former Wisconsin Badger Watt admitted earlier in the press conference that he would be disappointed if that were to be the case tomorrow, but he knew it would be for the greater good.

“I’ll be disappointed if I can’t, but at the end of the day, the most important thing is Sept. 9,” admitted Watt. “So, I’ll understand the decision if they hold me out.”

It seems unlikely that Watt will lineup on Thursday at Lambeau Field as the Texans take on the Packers in their first preseason game of the year, with these games typically used to test out the rookies and depth players more so than starters as they focus on preparing for Week 1.
