The Houston Texans added an offensive tackle in the fourth round of the 2020 NFL Draft, and Bill O’Brien feels good about the state of the offensive line.
The Texans’ coach and general admits that there is still a ways to go in assembling a final roster, but that he is encouraged about the prospects along the offensive line at this point in the year.
“For this time of year, again, it’s incomplete, but for where we are post-draft, I feel good about our offensive line, where we are and our depth there,” O’Brien told reporters on April 25. “We’ll continue to try to look to add to it.”
O’Brien also admitted that the Texans are in communication with college players who fell through the draft process and are now priority free agents. Two players who are in the process of joining the Texans are TCU guard Cordel Iwuagwu and North Texas center-guard Elex Woodworth.
The Texans still have to determine whether they want to hold their position at right guard with starter Zach Fulton and reserves Senio Kelemete and Greg Mancz. There is a sentiment the Texans will try to upgrade, if for no other reason than to free up salary cap space.
“Zach’s played a lot of good football for us,” said O’Brien. “We have Zach there, obviously Senio has played at that position, Greg Mancz can play at that position.”
It is another situation where O’Brien “feels good” about the prognosis.
