Texans coach Bill O’Brien admires ‘great history’ of the Dallas Cowboys

Houston Texans coach Bill O’Brien may have got his NFL coaching start with the New England Patriots, but there is another team formed in 1960 that has earned his respect.

The Dallas Cowboys, the Texans’ third preseason opponent, has “great history,” according to O’Brien, with having played in eight Super Bowls and winning three in four seasons in 1992, 1993, and 1995.

“Right now they’ve got a great head coach in Jason Garrett, ownership is Mr. [Jerry] Jones, awesome,” O’Brien told reporters Tuesday at Houston Methodist Training Center. “They’ve got a lot of good players. They have a good football team, a good organization.”

The Texans and Cowboys last faced one another on Oct. 7, 2018 at NRG Stadium with the home team prevailing 19-16 in overtime. It was the second win of the season for Houston, and was part of a nine-game winning streak that neutralized their 0-3 start from tarnishing their postseason chances.

On Saturday, this time at AT&T Stadium, the stakes won’t be as high as they were in Week 5 of the regular season, but it will be for middle tier and down roster players on both sides looking to make their case to play on their respective club’s 53-man roster.
