Texans, Celtics tie on Forbes’ annual most valuable sports franchise list

Very few would be surprised that the Houston Texans landed on Forbes’ top-50 list of the most valuable sports franchises in the world. However, the AFC South champions have to share the seat with a NBA franchise.

According to the list, the Boston Celtics are tied with the Texans for the 22nd spot on the list with both franchises estimated at a value of $2.8 billion. However, there is a difference in operating income as the Texans are at $161 million and the Celtics are at $100 million.

26 NFL qualified for the list with the Dallas Cowboys atop the stack with $5 billion in value. The other NFL team in Texas has an operating income of $365 million.

The lowest NFL qualifier was the New Orleans Saints with an estimated value of $2.08 billion. The Saints’ operating income is at $115 million.

The list once again demonstrates how beneficial it was for Houston that Bob McNair was able to bring the NFL back to the Bayou City. With Bob now passed on, his widow, Janice McNair, is the owner of the team and seeks to continue his legacy. The day-to-day operations are run by their son, Cal McNair, whose official title is chairman and CEO.
