Texans C Justin Britt says getting behind chased them out of the run

The Houston Texans had another dismal outing rushing the football as they generated 63 yards on 25 carries in their 33-13 loss to the Seattle Seahawks Sunday afternoon at NRG Stadium.

According to Texans center Justin Britt, the Texans got behind in the second half, and it forced Houston to start throwing the ball more.

“I thought in the first half we had a great balance and our approach was there,” said Britt. “They’re a really good defense, really good team as far as effort and how they fly to the football. We knew that. I told the guys how to prepare and the energy and effort we would need. I thought up front that we had the effort and the strain, and I felt like we did it through 60 minutes. We had the ball longer than them. We just, like I said, got down and had to get away from the run game pretty quick.”

The Texans led 7-0 in the first quarter before falling behind 16-13 at halftime. The difference between the two offenses was Seattle had big plays whereas the Texans were methodically moving the ball each drive.

“They had some pretty explosive plays on offense which helped them and put us out there a little quicker than we wanted to,” Britt said. “Ultimately, we’ve got to find a way to score in the second half. If we do throw every play, we just got to find a way to stay on the field, convert and score.”

Throwing the ball wasn’t too much of an issue for Houston against the Seahawks as rookie quarterback Davis Mills completed 33 passes on 49 attempts for 331 yards and a touchdown.

Said Britt: “I thought Davis was slinging it today. I thought our receivers were playing really physical. It just didn’t happen.”

The Texans fall to 2-11 on the season and will face another 2-11 squad next week in the Jacksonville Jaguars.
