Texans bring back QB Joe Webb on a one-year contract

The Houston Texans will have at least one backup quarterback that stays the same in 2019.

The Texans signed Joe Webb to a one-year contract on Thursday.

Webb not only has utility as a backup signal caller, but also as a special teams player and emergency receiver. In Week 14’s rematch with the Indianapolis Colts at NRG Stadium, Webb filled in for an injured receiving corps and played in the slot.

The 32-year-old is 1-2 for his career, including playoffs. The former UAB Dragon has a 63.1 passer rating in the regular season along with tossing three touchdowns and six interceptions.

Along with Webb, the Texans signed quarterback A.J. McCarron to backup starter Deshaun Watson.
