Texans’ Bill O’Brien unsure who starts at running back following Lamar Miller’s injury

The Houston Texans not only took a loss to the Dallas Cowboys 34-0 Saturday night at AT&T Stadium, but they also took another loss with starting running back Lamar Miller possibly tearing his ACL in what would be a season-ending injury.

There are options on the roster to look at with the most likely being Duke Johnson, who was acquired in a trade with the Cleveland Browns on Aug. 8. However coach Bill O’ Brien was quiet on the situation while meeting with the media Saturday night.

“I don’t know about that,” O’Brien said. “I think it’s a package deal, so it’s kind of early to talk about that, to nail that down right now but obviously Duke would be in there.”

If the Texans don’t go with Johnson as the outright starter, they could look to veterans Taiwan Jones, Josh Ferguson, and Buddy Howell to fill the void. All three, while veterans, present a lack of experience as feature backs. The club must also evaluate how well undrafted rookies Damarea Crockett and Karan Higdon would integrate into the running game.
