Texans’ Bill O’Brien: Guarding Colts WR T.Y. Hilton is a ‘challenge’

The Houston Texans are all too familiar with Indianapolis Colts wide receiver T.Y. Hilton. They will see him again on Sunday when the Colts host the Texans for a highly anticipated divisional tilt.

Since 2012, Hilton has made a pretty penny scorching the Texans defense. In 15 career games against Houston, the speed merchant has amassed 81 receptions for 1,530 yards and nine touchdowns, suitable for 5.4 receptions for 102 yards and 0.6 touchdowns per game.

“He’s fast, great route runner, can come in and out of his breaks, understands how to attack leverage, has great experience, he’s seen all the coverages that there are,” said Texans coach Bill O’Brien when discussing Hilton’s abilities on Wednesday.

Hilton, a four-time Pro Bowler, missed Week 4 with a quad injury. That hasn’t stopped him from making an impact. Through four games, the wide-out has 24 receptions for 232 yards and four touchdowns. Despite a switch in quarterbacks (from Andrew Luck to Jacoby Brissett), Hilton is productive.

“He knows how to get open, he’s got good chemistry with Jacoby [Brissett]. And, I think he is targeted quite a bit. It’s a challenge [defending Hilton].”

The Texans will have their hands full on Sunday in an attempt to limit Hilton. If vested veteran Johnathan Joseph is out, rookie Lonnie Johnson will match up with him for most of Sunday’s game.
