Texans’ Bill O’Brien apologizes after he was caught swearing at a heckler

Houston Texans coach Bill O’Brien found himself in trouble after a video surfaced of him yelling explicit language at a heckler.

TMZ unearthed the video of his interaction with a fan from the Texans’ loss the Denver Broncos in Week 14. O’Brien was leaving the field at halftime while trailing 31-3, and as he got to the tunnel, a fan swore at the coach. O’Brien exploded with emotion, and repeatedly swore back at the heckler. Receiver DeAndre Hopkins was forced to usher his coach into the locker room and down the tunnel.

It was probably the Texans’ worst performance in the regular season, but the scene seemed to be just as ugly off the field.

O’Brien apologized for the interaction on during a press conference on Friday.

“I used inappropriate language and I just want to apologize for that,” O’Brien told reporters ahead of the team’s playoff matchup against the Chiefs in Kansas City.

O’Brien earned the nickname, “Tea Pot,” in New England when he was the Patriots’ offensive coordinator. He and quarterback Tom Brady famously had a major verbal fight on the sideline in 2011. That brought the nickname — and O’Brien’s short temper — into the public eye.
