Texans backup QB A.J. McCarron dresses for Rams game, throws with no cast

The Houston Texans have some positive news on the injury front as the preseason draws to a close.

On Thursday during pregame warm-ups prior to the Texans’ game with the Los Angeles Rams at NRG Stadium, backup quarterback A.J. McCarron, who had been sidelined with a thumb injury on his throwing hand for the entire preseason, threw passes and did not appear to have a cast on his hand, according to Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle.

McCarron injured his thumb on Aug. 6 prior to the club’s preseason opener at the Green Bay Packers. The Texans held joint practices with the Packers, and it was during one of the combined team portions of practice that McCarron injured his thumb.

The former Cincinnati Bengal and Oakland Raider signal caller did not play versus the Rams. Third-string quarterback Joe Webb started the game, as he did in the Packers game to open preseason.
