Texans announce signing of 20 college free agents for rookie minicamp

If you’re a college free agent, the Houston Texans are a destination franchise when it comes to possibly making a NFL 53-man roster.

The former AFC South champions from last season announced they signed 20 undrafted free agents ahead just in time for rookie minicamp Friday.

One of the more intriguing prospects that could make an impact is running back Karan Higdon from Michigan. While the Texans like what they have in starting running Lamar Miller and complementary D’Onta Foreman, and even practice-squadder Buddy Howell, Higdon has a knack for making rosters and leveraging being counted out to sticking around.

While the Texans drafted Texas defensive end Charles Omenihu as an edge defender, the Achilles injury to outside linebacker Duke Ejiofor knocks him out of 2019, which opens the door for an outside linebacker to make a pitch for a spot on the roster. Outside linebackers Jesse Aniebonam (Maryland) and Jamal Davis (Akron) will be given special consideration, especially if they can play expertly on special teams.
