Texans add safety Tyvis Powell among other transactions

The Houston Texans signed safety Tyvis Powell and inside linebacker B.J. Bello on Saturday.

To make room for Powell an Bello, the club waived-injured receiver Isaac Whitney and safety A.J. Hendy.

Powell went undrafted from Ohio State in 2016, catching on with the Seattle Seahawks. In the 2017 offseason, he spent time with the Cleveland Browns and later spent training camp and preseason with the Indianapolis Colts. Powell went to the Seahawks’ practice squad in the early part of that season, and later was released. The San Francisco 49ers signed Powell to their practice squad, and he later made active roster in December.

The 49ers released Powell in November of 2018, and he later spent the rest of the year on the New York Jets’ practice squad. Powell later ended up back on the 49ers’ practice squad to close out the year.

In 18 career games with one start, Powell recorded nine combined tackles and a forced fumble.
