Texans add Houston native TE Keenen Brown to the practice squad

The Houston Texans continue to reshuffle their practice squad, specifically, their tight end position group. After waiving Jerell Adams from the 53-man last week, they are releasing him from the practice squad in favor of rookie undrafted tight end Keenen Brown, per Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle.

Brown went unselected in the 2019 NFL Draft. He spent training camp and the preseason with the Los Angeles Rams.

Brown finished his collegiate career with the Texas State Bobcats, after transferring from Oklahoma State; where he was recruited out of Alief Taylor (Houston) as a four-star wide receiver.

The Houston native finished his final year playing in the Big 12 with four receptions for 56 yards. In one year of playing in the Sun Belt Conference, he reeled in 47 catches for 556 yards and five touchdowns.

Brown was invited to the NFL Combine. He finished the event with a 4.75 second 40-yard-dash, 33-inch vertical, 117-inch broad jump and 17 reps on the 225-pound bench press.

NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein describes him as a “former wide receiver who still runs like it,” but critiques his lack of production and still-developing blocking.

With the addition of Brown, the Texans have a total of four first- or second-year tight ends collecting paychecks. Kahale Warring (rookie), Jordan Thomas, and Jordan Akins being the others.
