Texans add former Panthers left tackle Matt Kalil

The Houston Texans have signed former Minnesota Vikings and Carolina Panthers left tackle Matt Kalil to a one year deal.

The 29-year-old has been in the league since 2012 when he was the fourth overall selection by the Vikings. As a rookie, he made it to the Pro Bowl but has yet to be named back since.

He started 66 games for the Vikings before moving to the Panthers for the 2017 season where he started all 16 games. Since then, he has yet to appear in a regular season game after re-injuring his previously surgically repaired knee last September.

The Texans have been very open about the fact that they foresee Julién Davenport starting at left tackle next season, but if Kalil is capable of remaining fit and returning to the same sort of form that saw him nail down the starting job at two other franchises, he may end up being more than just a training camp signing.
