Texans 100: Facts and Figures for wild-card versus the Bills

The Houston Texans and Buffalo Bills face off in the AFC wild-card Saturday at 3:35 p.m. CT at NRG Stadium.

To start off the 100 facts, we take a look at some series history before delving into quarterback Deshaun Watson.

1. Since the AFC South’s 2002 inception, the Texans’ six division titles are second-most in AFC South history behind the Indianapolis Colts’ nine.

2. Since 1978, when the wild-card round was added to the playoffs, home teams are 90-56 in the wildcard round of the playoffs.

3. Since 1978, there have been 16 Super Bowl participants who started out in the wildcard round. 12/16 of those participants were the home team. Only the ’85 Patriots, ’05 Steelers, ’07 Giants, and ’10 Packers were road wildcard teams that advanced to the Super Bowl.

4. Houston is 3-2 in the wild-card round with all of those games being played at NRG Stadium.

5. The Bills are 3-4 in the wild-card round with a 1-3 record on the road.

6. The Texans are 3-2 in early afternoon Saturday wild-card games with all the games having been played at NRG Stadium.

8. With participation Saturday, the Texans will take second place for most early afternoon Saturday wild-card game since 1978 with six. The Kansas City Chiefs have the most with seven.

9. The Texans are 5-4 against the Bills with a 3-2 record at home.

10. The Texans’ 3-2 record against the Bills at home is their second-best against an AFC East opponent:

Dolphins: 5-0

Bills: 3-2

Jets: 1-2

Patriots: 2-3

 

11. The Bills’ 2-3 record against the Texans is their third-best against AFC South opponents on the road, including playoffs:

12. Watson tied his own single-season best from last year with 26 passing touchdowns.

13. While still an improvement from last season’s 62, Watson’s 44 sacks were still the fifth-most in club history.

14. Watson is the only quarterback in team history to take at least 30 sacks and still post a 95.0-plus passer rating for the season.

15. Watson’s seven rushing touchdowns were the eighth-most in Texans’ single-season history.

16. Among Pro Bowl quarterbacks, Watson’s 67.3 completion percentage is the second-highest this season.

17. Watson threw for 191 first downs, tied with Derek Carr for the ninth-most in the NFL.

18. Watson ran 93 run-pass option plays in 2019, the third-most in the league and second-most among Pro Bowl quarterbacks.

19. Watson produced 517 passing yards off run-pass option, the third-most in the league.

20. Watson had to scramble out of passes 44 times, the third-most overall.

21. Watson’s 8.9 intended air yards per pass attempt were tied with Ryan Fitzpatrick for the seventh-most in the league.

22. Watson is tied with Drew Brees and Jared Goff for the sixth-most red zone passing touchdowns with 18.

23. Watson is tied for the seventh-most red zone interceptions with two.

24. Watson was tied for the fourth-most fourth quarter comebacks in the NFL.

25. Watson’s five game-winning drives were tied with Russell Wilson and Josh Allen for the most in the league.
