Tetrarch Capital intends to continue public access to Ireland's Eye off coast of Howth following acquisition

Public access to Ireland's Eye is set to continue despite its acquisition by a private investor.

Questions about the future of the uninhabited island, located off the coast of Howth, have been raised in recent days.

Tetrarch Capital acquired the island back in May following the acquisition of Howth Castle and Demense from the Gaisford-St Lawrence family.

But the inclusion of Ireland's Eye in the sale was widely unreported until this week.

Howth Castle and Demense was previously owned by the Gaisford-St Lawrence family for 840 years.

They sold the 530 acre site earlier this year as they "lacked the resources to maximise its potential".

to re-open the Deer Park hotel and golf courses which were also included in the sale.

Tetrarch Capital have said they intend to continue the public access to the island, including the boat trips by visitors who are "very welcome".

They also said they intend to preserve the island's beauty, amenity and accessibility.

A spokesman for Tetrarch Capital told Dublin Live: "Public access to Ireland’s Eye will continue following Tetrarch Capital’s acquisition of Howth Castle and Demesne from the Estate’s long-term owners, the Gaisford-St Lawrence family.

"Tour operators in Howth continue to offer boat trips to Ireland’s Eye, and these visitors are very welcome to the island. It is our intention to work closely with key stakeholders to preserve the beauty, amenity and accessibility of Ireland’s Eye."

The investor and developer previously revealed a masterplan for the Demense.

It includes plans for a luxury hotel on the site of the existing Deer Park Hotel building, a championship golf course on lands currently occupied by the Deer Park Golf Courses.

It will also include a new leisure centre, retail elements and significant sports and recreational amenities and facilities, all with strong access and linkages to Howth Village.
