The Latrobe Valley in Gippsland has recorded one active case of COVID-19.
COVID-19 commander Jeroen Weimar says the person works at two fast food restaurants in Traralgon.
Thirty-six primary close contacts have been identified, and 33 have since tested negative to COVID-19.
"Acquisition is underway, we have a pretty good line of inquiry back to Melbourne," Mr Weirmar said.
"We'll confirm the details of that in the course of the next 24 hours."
Meanwhile, two COVID-19 exposure sites have been listed in nearby Sale.
An authorised worker travelled to Sale on Monday, worked at the Telstra exchange building between 10:30am and 4:00pm, then spent half an hour at the Matador Motel.
A Gippsland Region Public Health Unit spokesperson said it posed "no risk to the public", as there were no others at the sites at the time.
They also said a case listed in the area this morning was no longer in the region.
Local testing hours
Health authorities are urging anyone with any symptoms to get tested.
Testing is available without appointment at the Moe Senior Citizens Centre clinic which is open from 9:00am today.
Drive-through testing without an appointment is available at the Latrobe Regional Hospital from 10:00am.
COVID testing at the Morwell respiratory clinic is available by appointment from 9:00am.
Health authorities recently notified two "weak positive readings" in East Gippsland but were later reclassified as negative after further testing.
