Driving Home for Christmas was written for Van Morrison

Singer Chris Rea never managed to get it to the Belfast-born singer but ended up releasing the classic himself. Mariah Carey makes serious money from her big Christmas hit

According to the New York Post, the singer makes around $3 million (£2.4 million) per year with her hit 'All I Want for Christmas is You'. In December 2019, The Economist reported that the song has earned Mariah over $60 million (£45 million) in total at that point in time since its release in 1994.

Fairytale of New York never made it to Christmas No1 in the UK

However, in the UK, Fairytale of New York is the most-played Christmas song of the 21st century and is frequently cited as the best Christmas song of all time in various television, radio, and magazine-related polls in the UK and Ireland - including a UK television special on ITV in December 2012 where it was voted The Nation's Favourite Christmas Song.
