Tess Daly has revealed life backstage with Claudia Winkleman on Strictly Come Dancing is far from the ballroom glamour shown on TV screens — with the pair tucking into fast food after the show.
Daly said Domino’s and McDonald’s are among the favourite treats they consume on wrapping up the competition every Saturday night.
Daly, who has fronted the BBC ballroom show since 2004, told A List: “We don’t have time on a Saturday for a dinner break and lunch is on the go.
“We’re ravenous by the end of the day so we’re like ‘come on let’s treat ourselves — pizza or Maccy D’s?’ We know how to live — all that glamour!”
Manchester-born Daly, 49, has two daughters, Phoebe, 14, and Amber, nine, with husband Vernon Kay.
She said she hopes she has instilled her “down to earth” northern roots into their children. “Ego isn’t allowed to come in to play and you take a lot of things with a pinch of salt … I like to think I’ve passed that on to my daughters. You can only lead by example and not lecturing them. They’re going to be their own women,” she added.
Daly was talking ahead of the launch of TK Maxx’s Christmas Sock Day on December 6 for Cancer Research UK Kids & Teens. She said of the campaign: “I’ve had experience working with children who are living with cancer. As a mother it’s your worst nightmare that your child will get sick. You can’t fail but be touched by other children. It’s a privilege to be involved.”
