Tesla unveils its humanoid robot - Optimus - with several already in operation

Elon Musk has shown off progress on his Terminator-like Tesla Bot. The humanoid Optimus robot was showcased walking and performing basic tasks.

The tech company say they now have "multiple fully Tesla-made bots now walking around and learning about the real world." The robots have been seen strolling around office and factory environments, as well as picking up and moving objects.

Tesla have said the machines are set to be "a general purpose, bi-pedal, autonomous humanoid robot capable of performing unsafe, repetitive or boring tasks."

They are planned to stand 5ft 8in (173m) tall and weigh 12lb (57 kg). Tesla Bot was announced at the company's Artificial Intelligence Day event on August 19, 2021.

Musk has previously said that he thinks Optimus "has the potential to be more significant than the vehicle business over time".
