Tesla's cleaner way to clean up crime

POLICE will be cleaning up crime with this ultra-clean car – the Tesla Model 3, which produces no tailpipe emissions.

The battery-powered motor has a top speed of 152mph and can accelerate from 0-60mph in 3.1 seconds, quicker than most supercars.

It’s being trialled by police forces to find out if an electric vehicle (EV) is capable of doing the job of a police traffic car.

The Tesla has a range of up to 352 miles on a full charge for the Performance model that the police version is based on.

Built specifically for British police forces, this Tesla comes with full livery, lights and sirens, so there’s nothing stealthy about its appearance even if there’s no engine noise.

The Model 3 is already being used by law enforcement in the US and demand is expected to increase as emergency services move towards low emissions vehicles.

Other rapid response services are set to test this Tesla 3, including ambulance, and fire and rescue. Some police forces are already using EVs in towns and cities but the Tesla is the first EV to be trialled for high-speed, long distance duties.

Tesla’s Max Toozs-Hobson said: “Emergency vehicles need to move to full EV in order to achieve carbon emissions targets. The Model 3 offers unbeatable range, performance and safety for our first responders.”
