Tesla drives electric car sales in America

Manufacturer Tesla is reportedly leading a 95 per cent increase in electric car sales in America.

The news comes as the UK gears up for a ban on the sale of petrol and diesel powered vehicles within the next decade, with manufacturers vying to gain a share of the electric car market.

According to the website Electrek, a new report from Experian shows that electric vehicle sales grew by 95 per cent between January and April, compared to 36 per cent for the overall US new car market.

Tesla, headed by entrepreneur Elon Musk, has a 71 per cent share of the US electric car market.

The top-selling electric vehicle sold in the US from January to April 2021 is cited as the Tesla Model Y, with 53,102 leaving showrooms. Other manufacturers include Chevrolet, Ford, Nissan, Porche and Hyundai.
