Tesco yellow-label discount trick found by shoppers

A money-saving hack using Tesco's yellow-label discounts has been found by a bargain hunting couple.

Bloggers Ricky and Naomi Wills, who run the Skint Chef and Skint Dad blogs, have cracked what the secret six-digit code means when you spot it on labels on the shelves underneath cut-price products.

They say you can use the code to determine whether to stock up immediately and get the best bargain, reports Mirror Online.

Each yellow label detailing a cut-price offer has a six-digit code at Tesco and the couple discovered that the code is actually a reverse date while shopping in their local Tesco.

With this in mind, it is possible to confirm the offer by comparing with end-dates on the Tesco website.

And Tesco confirmed the code relates to the dates behind bargains.

Similar codes also appear to be used at other shops, such as Asda and Home Bargains.

When supermarkets reduce their food

Naomi wrote: "When I'm in the supermarket, I check prices like a hawk. And something is glaring on the price label on the Tesco shelf that will seem obvious when you see it.

"You can use this to determine if you need to buy your favourite groceries sharpish and potentially bulk, or if you've got more time to buy the food over a longer time, saving you potentially wasting food."
