Tesco website and app back up and running following suspected hacker attack

Tesco's website and app are back up and running, following a service outage over the weekend that was brought about from a suspected hacker attack.

Hull Live reports the outage began Saturday morning and continued into yesterday, which caused disruptions to many online shoppers.

A spokesman for the supermarket giant said: “Our online grocery website and app are now back up and running.

"Our teams have worked around the clock to restore service, and we’re really sorry to our customers for the inconvenience caused.”

The outage began with customers unable to order online and track any deliveries, prompting shoppers to flood the supermarket with queries online.

The supermarket said on Twitter that there was an issue with their website and app, but later confirmed that the outage was caused by a "deliberate attempt to interfere with their systems."

Tesco also confirmed that "there is no reason to believe that this issue impacts customer data."

In a series of social media posts, the supermarket chain confirmed that they were looking into and trying to resolve the issue, while shoppers asked for more information.

They also confirmed on social media that their website and app was back up and running but, due to high demand caused by the outage, customers may need to temporarily wait in a virtual waiting room.

The full post read: "Our groceries website and app are back up and running.

To help us manage the high volume we’re temporarily using a virtual waiting room.

We’re really sorry for any inconvenience and thank you for your patience."
