Tesco urgently recalls butter product containing 'high levels' of bacteria

Tesco shoppers are being urged to check their fridges for a certain dairy product which has been recalled due to health and safety concerns.

The supermarket recently announced it is recalling a certain batch of a butter product that could contain bacteria.

The Big Six grocer took to social media to announce to alert shoppers that one batch of their Trewithen Dairy Unsalted Butter could contain "high levels" of the bacteria E.coli, reported Edinburgh Live.

The E.coli bacteria can be relatively harmless as it lives in the intestines of healthy people, but certain strains are known to cause some harmful effects.

These can include severe stomach cramps, bloody diarrhoea and vomiting.

Tesco also announced in the recall that no other batches from the dairy brand seem to be affected.

Shoppers who have purchased the affected product are being urged not to eat it, and to return it to their local store immediately for a full refund.

In a recent post to Facebook, the supermarket wrote: As a precaution, Trewithen Dairy is recalling one batch code of its unsalted butter, as it’s been found to contain high levels of E. coli."

Those seeking more information should get in touch with Trewithen Dairy Customer Services on 01208 228 700 or Tesco Customer Services on 0800 505 555.
