Tesco stores to close some clothing sections during second lockdown depending on layout

Tesco has been forced to close their clothing sections in certain stores for the period of the second national lockdown.

If stores that sell clothes and any other non-food items on a separate floor, then it is to be closed off to shoppers according to new Government guidance.

This came into force on Saturday, November 7, reports Nottinghamshire Live.

A Tesco spokesperson said: “In line with new Government guidance in England which requires the closure of separate floors selling non-food items, we have closed the clothing and general merchandise departments in our stores that sell these products from a separate mezzanine level.”

But if the toilet or health and beauty items are on a another floor, it's believed that customers will still be able to gain access.

And in line with Government guidance, clothing, general merchandise and Tesco mobile shops will stay open if they are located on the main shop floor.

At Tesco, there is a limit of three items for flour, dried pasta, toilet roll, baby wipes and anti-bacterial wipes, and online, there are limits on some items such as rice and canned vegetables.

And the company asks that "only one person from each household comes in-store to do their shopping".

Tesco says: "We’re continuing to do all we can to ensure that everyone can get the food they need in a safe environment.

"We have installed a simple ’traffic light’ system in some of our larger stores to help us manage the flow in and out. Once in-store, please keep to the social distancing markings.

"If there’s a queue outside and it’s raining, we’ll be handing out sanitised umbrellas in our larger stores.

"Hand sanitiser and cleaning stations are available around our stores, and we continue to have social distancing guidelines and signage in place. There are screens at the checkouts to keep everyone safe, and we encourage you to use contactless payment where you can.

"When you visit our stores, please follow the legal guidance on wearing a face covering. If you forget to bring one, we have packs available to buy at the front of our stores, which you can open immediately and pay for with your shopping later.

"As a reminder, the police can issue fines for not wearing a face covering, unless you’re exempt."
