Tesco staff 'mocked armless disabled man who used feet to pay and pack bags'

Members of staff allegedly laughed behind a disabled customer's back after he used his feet to pay for goods and pack his bag.

The man, who has no arms, was shopping at the Tesco Superstore in Ammanford on Thursdsay afternoon, November 14.

While he was interacting with the cashier and packing his bags the man was treated politely by staff, a woman who witnessed the encounter said, Wales Online reported.

But as soon as he began to leave the shop two members of staff began "laughing and joking" at the disabled man's expense, the woman alleged.

The shopper took to social media following the incident to vent her disgust at what she claimed to have seen.

“A lovely gentleman was in front of me in the queue (an amazing man) who had no arms,” she said.

“He was using his feet to put his groceries on the counter, and to pay and to collect his change.

“The young man that served him was very polite to him but as soon as he walked off he started laughing and joking to the other woman behind the counter - saying how he had to put his change into his foot ‘uuugh!’."

The conversation the woman claims to have overheard suggested that the disabled man was a regular in the shop.

“The other member of staff said ‘why do you think I didn’t come to serve - you got him this time!," she continued.

“To the two members of staff, you should be ashamed of yourself. I was disgusted with what I heard come out of your mouths.

“People like you need to take a good hard look in the mirror and realise that many people have different things they have to struggle through.”

A complaint has been received by Tesco and the supermarket giant has confirmed it is investigating the matter.

A spokeswoman for Tesco said: “This behaviour is not acceptable and we are urgently looking into what happened.

“Everyone is welcome at Tesco and providing an excellent customer experience to all is a core part of our values.”
