Tesco sparks major Jaffa Jonuts debate after asking key question

The question of whether a Jaffa Cake is really a cake or a biscuit has been at the centre of many debates over the years.

And now there's a brand new argument brewing after McVitie's announced the launch of the Jaffa Jonut, a hybrid between a cake and a doughnut.

The new treat has the same sponge with the familiar orange-flavoured filling and dark chocolate coating, only this time it's in a doughnut-shaped ring.

And while the classic Jaffa Cake is in fact defined as a cake, Tesco has sparked a new Jaffa debate after asking shoppers which aisle the spin-off Jonut should be stocked in.

Posting on Twitter, the official Tesco account shared a picture of the new snack when it arrived in stores earlier in May and wrote: "Ok people, we need your help.

"Which aisle should we stock the brand-new Jaffa Jonuts? The cake, biscuit or donut aisle. Answers below."

And it's safe to say customers couldn't agree.

In favour of the cake aisle, one shopper said: "Cake, it has the donut shape but consistency more like a cake. I'm sure most will be in a prime end of aisle position though."

"With the cake bars and doughnuts, by the bakery - with the mini rolls etc!" agreed another.

Others disagreed, however, with one stating: "It's a doughnut shape and doughnut texture, so should be with the doughnuts…"

"Biscuits for sure," said another.

Some said the Jaffa Jonuts could go in all three, with one suggesting: "Put some in cake aisle, some in biscuit aisle and a stand near doughnuts."

Agreeing, another added: "The correct answer is of course, all three! These are bound to be a popular product."
