Greater Manchester Police has issued a warning to shoppers about scammers posing as supermarket Tesco to steal personal details by pretending to offer 'free vouchers' during the coronavirus outbreak.
The police force warned about the scam on Twitter - advising people to be wary when opening their emails.
In a post, GMP wrote: "ALERT: Reports have been received about these fake Tesco emails offering ‘free vouchers’ during the coronavirus outbreak.
"The link leads to a convincing-looking #phishing website that is designed to steal your login, personal and financial information! #coronavirusfrauds."
The warning message reads: "Watch out for these fake Tesco emails. Action Fraud has received 30 reports about fake emails that purport to be from Tesco.
"The email states that the supermarket is offering free vouchers during the coronavirus outbreak.
"The link in the email leads to a genuine-looking phishing website that is designed to steal login credentials as well as personal and financial information."
If you receive the email, GMP says: "Don't click the links or attachments in suspicious emails and never respond to messages that ask for your personal or financial details."
