Tesco shoppers issued Clubcard warning with time running out to spend vouchers

Tesco Clubcard shoppers have just days to spend their old vouchers before they expire and are unfit for use.

Clubcard vouchers are issued to consumers quarterly (every three months) in February, May, August and November - and they are only valid for two years before expiring.

Which means that the deadline is rapidly approaching for vouchers which were issued in August 2020, with consumers having until the 31st of the month before they are no longer accepted.

The Mirror reports that Clubcard vouchers can be used in Tesco stores, as well as online, to lower the cost of grocery and fuel bills. You can check on the Tesco Clubcard website to see if you have any forgotten-about vouchers in need, by logging in with your membership details.

This announcement comes just a week after Tesco revealed a big blow for online shoppers - with the value of Clubcard vouchers dropping soon when buying delivery plans.

Clubcards can save shoppers money at Tesco (PA)

Currently, customers get three times the value of their Clubcard vouchers when buying the supermarket's delivery plans, but from November 14, the vouchers will only be worth their face value when buying delivery passes. Currently customers can redeem Tesco Clubcard points to save on their deliveries using a Delivery Saver Code scheme.

For every 50p in Clubcard vouchers, shoppers can redeem £1.50 in reward partner codes to use against the cost of any delivery plan. For anyone wanting to purchase the most expensive plan - the £83.33 yearly payment - they would only have to use £28 of their Clubcard vouchers.

However, shoppers were sent an email on Tuesday from the supermarket giant, alerting them to the changes in the Delivery Saver Code scheme. The email gave them a three month deadline to use delivery codes in exchange for a bargain pass.

Tesco delivery plans vary from six to 12 month passes. The 12 month membership includes off-peak plans (delivering next day after 3pm) costing £47.88 or the most expensive any-time pass for an annual fee of £83.88.

Six month passes are also available at £29.94 for off peak deliveries or £47.94 peak. You can opt to pay monthly rather than upfront- with the cost either £2.49, £4.99 or £7.99.

Many customers have taken to social media to express disappointment with the change- especially amid the ongoing cost of living crisis. Posting on Scrimping on a Budget Facebook group, one shopper said: "I got the email too... glad I stopped using Tesco.. I always used Clubcard for saver."

Another added: "Gutted! One of the main reasons I use Tesco."

A Tesco spokesperson said: “Clubcard is how our customers get the best value from shopping with Tesco; from Clubcard Prices on thousands of products to Clubcard points on food, fuel, clothing and more in store and online. Our Delivery Saver plans provide great value for our customers, starting from as little as £2.49 per month for our Click & Collect plan and £3.99 per month for our cheapest home delivery plan.

“Clubcard customers will still be able to get three times the value of their vouchers on Tesco Delivery Saver plans until the 14th November.”
