Tesco shoppers have just two weeks left before big Clubcard changes

Tesco is encouraging its customers to make sure they have the correct Clubcard app downloaded to their phones before the current one retires. The supermarket recently announced a handful of changes to its Clubcard programme, including reducing the value of points and a change in the app.

The Tesco Pay+ app was a free payment app that allowed users to collect Clubcard points and make in-store payments by utilising a debit or credit card by scanning the barcode. It only launched a year ago, in January 2022, but was retired in February of this year.

Now, the supermarket chain is urging customers to download the replacement app as it retires both the Pay+ and “Clubcard” apps. Here’s everything you need to know.

Which apps are Tesco retiring?

Tesco retired its Pay+ app in February 2023. Its standalone Clubcard app will also soon become defunct on April 18.

What app do I need to download to use my Tesco Clubcard?

You’ll need to download the “Tesco Grocery and Clubcard” app to your device. It’s available for free on Android and Apple devices and you won’t lose any Clubcard points, vouchers or coupons in the switch.

The new app will be available in the App and Play stores on your device. There should also be an option to download the new app within the existing Clubcard app, but only until April 18.

This app combines all the features of the previous apps, with those of the previous Tesco Grocery app. So as well as using it to pay, you can also view your points balance, spend any Clubcard vouchers, order a grocery delivery and check stock in your local store.

Tesco says the change aims to make things easier for shoppers by having everything in one app. A spokesperson told MoneySavingExpert: "Bringing the functionality of Tesco Pay+ into the Tesco Grocery & Clubcard app is a demonstration of our focus on providing products which closely align to the needs of Tesco shoppers."
