Tesco shoppers fuming after 300,000 are placed in queue for Christmas delivery slots

Tesco shoppers have been left questioning their priority membership, after being placed in a queue of 300,000 people to get a Christmas delivery slot.

Shoppers who pay for Delivery Saver were told they could book a slot from 6am on Tuesday morning.

The £7.99 subscription offers early access to booking ahead of the general release of Christmas delivery slots.

However customers say the scheme is flawed.

One shopper said: "Joined before 6am, 300k place in the queue…

"An hour later, the wait was 10mins. Then it went back up to 40mins. Now the queue has been paused. I’ve been using the app, no ‘app trick’ for me"

Another said: " The Tesco Christmas delivery shopping slots went live today. We logged on and were 205,368th in the virtual queue!”

Hundreds of shoppers have taken to social media to complain to the supermarket.

Many shared a picture of their position in the virtual queue – with no estimate wait time.

Delivery Saver members get free delivery and collection on grocery spends above £40 or £25 if you use click and collect from the supermarket.

Subscribers can also book delivery slots four weeks in advance and collect Clubcard points on top.

Anyone else who's not signed up will have to wait until November 23.

Last year Tesco almost sold out of Christmas delivery slots before they went on general sale.

However, despite the delays, shoppers said the system is a lot easier this time around.

"Only had to wait 40mins in a queue for this years #tesco Christmas delivery slots, last year it took over 2 hours," one shopper tweeted.

"The queue works well and estimated wait meant only having to check the screen a few times.

"An hour after the start time and there were still slots left for two thirds of the 23rd after I had finished."

A Tesco Spokesperson said: “We experienced high volumes of traffic to our website and groceries app this morning and temporarily limited the number of customers using it.

"We’re sorry for any inconvenience this caused and would like to reassure customers that there are still slots available for both home delivery and click & collect over the Christmas period.”
