Tesco shoppers fume as hundreds of today's home deliveries suddenly cancelled

Tesco shoppers have flocked to Twitter to question why their online shopping orders have been cancelled today - with some reporting next to no notice time.

One customer shared their cancellation message from Tesco with Edinburgh Live, which simply reads: "We're sorry to let you know your order has been cancelled."

The shopper Edinburgh Live: “We were expecting a weeks worth of groceries this evening and received an email at 11am this morning saying the order had been cancelled, with no explanation or solution to the problem.

“After waiting on the phone for a good 20 minutes, I got through to someone who told me what I already knew, that the order had been cancelled and there was nothing they can do about it. Apparently there was some sort of system error that would prevent the team from picking the groceries.

"The person on the phone just apologised but didn’t offer any sort of solution or try to re-schedule the delivery, meaning that I’ll now have to go to the store before I have my family visiting on the weekend.

“You have to feel for the people who are vulnerable or isolating due to Covid as they won’t be able to make it out and might not even be able to use the click and collect service.

"We also pay for a delivery saver every month which means we’ll have paid for a delivery that we never got. Tesco’s negligence in not offering an explanation or solution to such a huge issue is quite disappointing and we’ll be going elsewhere from now on.”

Over on Twitter, many shoppers are reporting the same issue, with some left in coronavirus isolation with cancelled food deliveries from the major supermarket.

One user, @cosmicdancer wrote: "@Tesco Cancelled my home delivery by email 28 minutes before my time slot. Now been hanging on the phone for over 10 mins to try and find out why. Next delivery slot is 2 days away!".

Another reported: "For the second week now i have no grocery order due to a system issue can someone please explain how I do a grocery shop this week as I’m currently in isolation with Covid."

"My order for today has just be cancelled with no information about why. Is it really not going to come? Trying to get through on the phone too, but it's busy!" said Twitter user @eims.

In one reply to a disgruntled customer, Tesco's customer service tweeted: "I'm really sorry to hear this. Unfortunately the order has been cancelled due to widespread network issues I'm afraid. It is not our intention to upset our customers and I'm very sorry we have done so this occasion."

Edinburgh Live has contacted Tesco for comment.
