Tesco shoppers 'disgusted' as 14 Heinz products disappear including ketchup and beans

Tesco shoppers expressed their outrage over the price increase of Heinz products in the days before popular items like beans and ketchup started disappearing from shelves.

The two sides are locked in a cost row, leading to empty shelves in stores and products unavailable online.

Tesco is blaming the food supplier for upping its prices - while Heinz says it is "working closely” with the supermarket to come up with a solution after pausing supplies.

Shortly before items started going out of stock, shoppers took to Twitter to complain about how some Heinz products had shot up in price.

One asked: “How can you put Heinz tomato & basil soup up 55p in three days?”

Another moaned: “Small tin of beans and sausage Heinz was 65p now £1.00 - unreal.”

A third commented: “Last week in Tesco, tin of Heinz soup 95p today £1.40! Disgusting.”

A fourth noted: “Tins of Heinz soup in Tesco a few weeks ago cost £3 for 4. Now they are £1.40 EACH. That's nearly a 100% rise.“

Last year, the boss of Kraft Heinz warned shoppers to expect higher prices over the following months.

Miguel Patricio said the firm is "raising prices, where necessary, around the world" of products including ketchup and baked beans.

A Tesco spokesperson said: "We're laser-focused on keeping the cost of the weekly shop in check, offering customers great value through our combination of Aldi Price Match, Low Everyday Prices and Clubcard Prices.

“With household budgets under increasing pressure, now more than ever we have a responsibility to ensure customers get the best possible value, and we will not pass on unjustifiable price increases to our customers.

"We're sorry that this means some products aren't available right now, but we have plenty of alternatives to choose from and we hope to have this issue resolved soon."

A Kraft Heinz spokesperson said: "We are working closely with Tesco to resolve the situation as quickly as possible.

"In today's challenging economic environment - with commodity and production costs rising - many consumers are working within tight budgets.

"We always look at how we can provide value through price, size and packs so consumers can enjoy the products they love and trust at a price point that works within their budgets, without compromising on quality.

"We are confident of a positive resolution with Tesco."
