Hundreds of Tesco customers complained after they were unable to buy their groceries from the supermarket giant. An online glitch meant people couldn't process or amend their shopping choices on Wednesday.
Tesco has apologised and said it had been experiencing issues with its website. Website Downdetector said more than 500 people had complained, with around 60% of customers having issues with online shopping, and 23% having issues with the Tesco app, Manchester Evening News reports.
Issues were reported across the country by users on social media. @Cazjohnson79 tweeted: "Is there a problem with the app/website at the moment? It’s telling me it can’t update my basket.
"Looks like others are having similar issues. Do you know when the problem will be fixed pleased?"
In reply, Tesco tweeted: "Good Afternoon, I'm sorry we are experiencing issues with our website, we'll have them fixed ASAP but at the moment don't have an estimated time."
@SallyHornsey tweeted: " @Tesco I'm online and logged in but I can't book a slot or add anything to my trolley. Tried with 2 browsers. Is something wrong? #hungry."
A Tesco spokesperson said on Wednesday: "We have now fixed a technical issue that impacted some of our customers using our website and app earlier today. We are sorry for any inconvenience this caused."
A similar online glitch hit the supermarket last month. In this incident, on August 15, thousands were unable to shop online or change their baskets for more than three hours.
